An NGO Known as Women Development Association for Self Sustenance discovered that only two percent of the population of Bauchi State can have access to safely managed water.
The program manager of the NGO,Mr Sukumun N.Ezekiel disclosed this in Bauchi during a stakeholders meeting at Bauchi emigrate council on health matters and other related hygienic services.
He made mentioned that,in schools,health care centers and public domains access to basic wash services are very low in percentage levels with the following parameters 18 percent,7 percent and 3 percent access respectively.
“The aforementioned statistics are alarming and they have revealed that Bauchi state still have a long way to go to achieved a sustainable development goals target 6 of ensuring access to adequately,clean and hygienic efficient water services for all by the year 2030,” he stated.
The manager said with good hygienic services practice recommended as the first line of defense in the prevention of Covid-19 and other prevalence infectious diseases,Bauchi State is still performing very low in the provision of portable water supply and basic hygiene services and sanitation according to the research,he added.
The program manager also added that,water,sanitation and hygiene National outcome routine mapping survey also indicates that 21 percent of the population still practice open defecation,thereby causing contamination to the surrounding environment and water bodies this leads to serious water pollution by 74 percent of the population.
The program manager has also noted that,in the meantime,millions of states’population across Nigeria including women and persons with deformities remain vulnerable to diseases such as Covid-19,as Nigeria continues to record infectious and new variants of the various across the globe.
He emphasized that according to NCDC,as at 14th July 2022,Bauchi state has 1,952 laboratory confirmed cases and 24 mortality rates.The program manager,reiterated that 257,637 cases have been confirmed nationwide with 4,206 on admission and mortality rates of 3,144.
According to him,latest update from NCDC has indicated that Covid-19 cases across Nigeria surged by 67 percent between June and July,2022.NGO team leader has concluded that despite the situation,the Covid-19 drive in the country has met with deepest level of hesitancy.
