The Department of State Services (DSS) has called for enhanced collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on intelligence sharing, particularly in tracking terrorism financing, leadership reports.
This appeal was made in Enugu State during a courtesy visit by the DSS Director in the state, Mr. Humphrey Ohikhuare, to the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Director, CE Mohammed Shuaib Bello.
During the visit, Ohikhuare acknowledged the EFCC’s crucial role in combating corruption, economic, and financial crimes, noting that the Commission’s efforts have significantly contributed to the proper utilization of the nation’s resources for its citizens.

“As the director here, I recognize the vital role you play in tackling financial and economic crimes, which has helped sustain our economy,” he stated. “I also commend your dedication to investigating and prosecuting fraudulent individuals, as this has enabled us to re-strategize and ensure that our country’s resources benefit the people.”
He emphasized the need for a stronger synergy between both agencies in intelligence sharing to disrupt terrorism financing in the state. According to him, tracking the sources of terrorist funding—often funneled through financial institutions—would help curb criminal activities.
“I am here to strengthen collaboration on intelligence gathering. One of our key objectives in the state is to combat terrorism, and we know terrorists cannot operate without funding. Some of these funds move through the banking system. By sharing intelligence, we can cut off their financial supply and significantly reduce terrorism in Enugu State,” he said.
In response, EFCC Zonal Director Bello welcomed the DSS director’s visit and emphasized the longstanding partnership between the two agencies. He noted that the DSS, as a key stakeholder and board member of the EFCC, has consistently worked alongside the Commission to achieve their shared objectives.
“The EFCC’s core mandate is to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes. As you rightly pointed out, terrorism cannot exist without financing, so this collaboration is essential,” Bello stated. “We are fully committed to intelligence sharing because, without it, neither the EFCC nor the DSS can effectively carry out their mandates. The DSS has always been a critical partner, and we will continue to work together in Enugu State.”
