The Kano Hisbah Board has announced the arrest of a couple who held their marriage ceremony at a restaurant without parental consent,Thecable reports.
Mujahideen Abubakar, the board’s deputy commander general of operations, confirmed the arrest to TheCable on Thursday, stating that Hisbah operatives raided the restaurant on Wednesday following an intelligence tip-off.
“The bride and groom are in our custody, and we are working to locate the witnesses to expand our investigation,” Abubakar said.
He described the situation as unfortunate, noting that the marriage was arranged by the groom’s friends without parental approval.

Abubakar further stated that the board would take action against anyone violating Islamic law in the state. He also revealed that authorities were searching for guests who attended the ceremony, as many fled when Hisbah personnel arrived.
“We arrested the couple and are currently tracking the groom’s friends who escaped when our personnel stormed the restaurant,” he said.
According to him, the couple failed to meet key marriage requirements, constituting a violation of Shari’ah law.
The Kano Hisbah Board is responsible for enforcing moral regulations under Islamic law in the state. The agency is known for various activities, including the destruction of alcoholic beverages, the arrest of unmarried men and women found together in hotels, and the prohibition of mannequins in boutiques.
