The chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has been arrested in connection with an alleged corruption case involving the diversion of over N4 billion,

A source within the commission confirmed the development on Friday, stating, “He was arrested today and will likely be taken to Abuja.”

The arrest was executed by police operatives led by ASP Ahmed Bello.

Rimingado’s detention is reportedly tied to the ongoing trial of Bala Muhammed Inuwa, the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO). The trial, which commenced in November 2023 at the Kano State High Court under Justice Hafsat Yahaya, has uncovered significant evidence, including the seizure of properties and frozen bank accounts linked to the misappropriated funds.

The case escalated in December 2023 when Inuwa filed a suit before Justice Aisha Ya’u of another Kano State High Court, seeking the removal of police officers stationed at Limestone Processing Links Ltd., where the seized assets were being held. Justice Ya’u granted the request, ordering the removal of the officers.

The PCACC contested this decision, arguing that it was not included in the suit despite being the primary custodian of the confiscated assets. The commission filed a motion for a stay of execution of the order and requested to be added to the proceedings, emphasizing that the police were securing the properties on its behalf.

In a recent press briefing, Rimingado revealed that the commission had thwarted an attempt to relocate the seized assets, valued at over N2 billion. These assets, which include trailers, trucks, and minivans, had been moved from Kumbotso Local Government Area to a government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA. He stated that the move was in accordance with Section 40 of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Law.

As of the time of this report, further details regarding Rimingado’s arrest remain unclear.
