President Bola Tinubu has officially decorated his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Nurudeen Yusuf, with the rank of colonel during a ceremony held on Thursday at the State House in Abuja,Thecable reports.
Yusuf, who was appointed as Tinubu’s ADC in April 2023, prior to the president’s inauguration on May 29, received the promotion in recognition of his dedication and service. In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Tinubu described Yusuf as a “reliable officer deserving of elevation” and expressed confidence in his potential for continued success in the military.
Onanuga explained that Yusuf, previously a lieutenant colonel, was promoted to colonel through a Nigerian Army promulgation (AHQ MS/G1/300/252/2) on December 19, 2024, with the promotion backdated to take effect from September 22, 2023.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu praised Yusuf’s commitment and professionalism. “You all know Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf. He carries significant responsibilities, and I am delighted that the military authorities have recognized his contributions with this promotion,” the president said.
“Nurudeen is a diligent and reliable officer with an exemplary character. I believe he has a bright future and will continue to excel in his career. From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you. May God bless and protect our armed forces,” Tinubu added.
The president also extended gratitude to Yusuf’s wife, commending her for maintaining a stable and supportive home front during her husband’s service.
In his response, Yusuf expressed profound gratitude to the president for his trust and leadership, describing the promotion as a significant milestone in his career. “This moment reflects the enduring support of those around me. Serving as your ADC has been the highest honour of my career,” he said.
Yusuf also thanked his family and acknowledged the guidance of Almighty Allah, dedicating his achievement to those who have supported him throughout his journey.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Chief of Defense Staff Christopher Musa, and Minister of State for Defense Bello Matawalle. Members of Yusuf’s family, including his mother, Kudirat Yusuf; his wife, Ganiyat Yusuf; and his daughter, Abiodun Yusuf, were also present to celebrate the occasion.
