The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four individuals suspected of vandalizing streetlights in Abuja,Daily Trust reports.
Speaking during the parade of the suspects on Friday, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, stated that the suspects were apprehended while committing the crime.
“Today, we have four suspects connected to the vandalism of streetlight poles at different locations in the city center. This arrest is part of a series of successful operations against vandals, marking another milestone in our efforts to combat vandalism in the Federal Capital Territory,” Odumosu said.
He disclosed that the items recovered from the suspects included one medium-sized traffic light pole and two large traffic light poles.

The suspects include 21-year-old Japheth Adams from Zango Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State and his accomplice, 51-year-old Friday Ojo from Ojo LGA of Lagos State. They were arrested around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in the Utako area near Eden Garden, vandalizing medium-sized streetlight poles.
Additionally, Ibrahim Aliyu, 19, from Nasarawa LGA in Kano State, and Hassan Abdullahi, 23, from Zaria LGA in Kaduna State, were apprehended while vandalizing large streetlight poles near the Moshood Abiola Stadium and National Hospital junction around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Dr. Odumosu noted that the suspects are currently under investigation, assuring that due process would be followed to ensure justice is served.
He issued a stern warning to vandals, urging them to desist from such unpatriotic acts, as the NSCDC would continue its 24-hour surveillance and patrols across the metropolis and its suburbs.
The Commandant also called on FCT residents to cooperate with the Corps by providing credible intelligence and information to aid in safeguarding public infrastructure.
