Residents of Kobi Street near Wunti Gate in Bauchi were left in shock after discovering the lifeless body of a newborn baby abandoned in a refuse dump,wikkitimes reports.
Eyewitnesses reported that the infant, a baby girl, was wrapped in two black plastic bags and left behind a local shop. Musa Jibrin, the community leader of Wunti North, shared details of the distressing find on Friday morning.
“I received information that the lifeless body of a baby girl was dumped behind Alhaji Babangida Mai Coca-Cola’s shop,” Jibrin recounted. “When I arrived, I saw the baby tied up inside two black plastic bags. I immediately informed the Mai Gunduma and reported the incident to the police at the Township Station.”
Police officers from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium and Township Divisions quickly responded to the scene. In line with protocol, community members refrained from disturbing the site until the authorities arrived. The police subsequently retrieved the body for further investigation.

The incident was confirmed by Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil. He stated that officers had been mobilized to secure the area and gather evidence, promising a thorough investigation to identify those responsible for the tragic act.
