The Presidency has dismissed claims that the current administration is prioritizing the South West over other regions in security sector appointments,Daily Trust reports.
Following the appointment of Major General Olufemi Oluyede as Acting Chief of Army Staff, some critics, especially on social media, accused President Bola Tinubu of “Yorubanisation,” suggesting he is favoring the Yoruba. Oluyede was appointed to temporarily replace General Tahoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who is currently abroad receiving medical treatment. Some Nigerians argued that other qualified generals from regions outside the South West could have filled the role.
Responding to these accusations, Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, shared a breakdown of security agency leaders appointed by Tinubu. According to Dare’s list, the North West holds the highest number of appointments (eight), followed by the South West (five) and North Central (four). The North East has three appointments, while the South South and South East have one each.

“Facts do not lie. Here are the facts about the regional distribution of President Tinubu’s appointments across 20 security agencies. The claim of him favoring the Yoruba does not hold up. Nigeria, we hail thee!” Dare wrote in his post.
