Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday, responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after months of evading the anti-graft agency,leadership reports.
Bello arrived at the EFCC headquarters accompanied by several prominent Nigerians.
In a statement from the Director of Yahaya Bello’s Media Office, Ohiare Michael, it was revealed that the former governor’s decision to comply came after consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies.
The statement read, “The former governor, who holds the rule of law and constituted authority in high regard, had always sought to protect his fundamental rights while ensuring due process. The case is already before a competent court, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been consistently represented by his legal team at every hearing. It is now essential for him to honor the EFCC’s invitation to clear his name, as he has nothing to hide or fear.”

The statement also emphasized Bello’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its commitment to sustainable economic development and anti-corruption efforts. Michael added, “Yahaya Bello was the first governor of Kogi State to establish an anti-corruption framework, ensuring the state’s resources were directed towards benefiting the people.”
He expressed hope that the EFCC would handle the matter with professionalism and respect for Bello’s rights as a Nigerian citizen.
Efforts to obtain a response from the EFCC regarding Bello’s appearance were unsuccessful, as the agency’s spokesperson did not confirm or deny his presence.
