Former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, donated N1 billion as an endowment to the people of the state on Wednesday. Bafarawa, who governed from 1999 to 2007, explained that the gesture stems from his desire to address any shortcomings during his time in office,Daily Trust reports.
“At 70, I feel a stronger connection to the people and a responsibility to fill any gaps, whether consciously or unconsciously, that may have affected my relationship with them while I was in office,” Bafarawa said. “Some may see this as atonement, but I view it as an act of reciprocity. I want to give back to the people for the goodwill and love they showed me.”
He emphasized that this contribution is especially important now, as the country faces economic hardship. “Given the difficult times people are enduring, I have decided to allocate N1 billion to support the welfare and well-being of the people of Sokoto State,” he added.
