Civil servants in Adamawa State celebrated with joy and gratitude as they received their August salaries, now reflecting the new national minimum wage benchmark of N70,000,leadership reports.
Many workers, who began receiving their salary alerts on Friday, expressed their commitment to working even harder now that their financial burdens have been eased.
Alhaji Danjuma Usman Mohammed, a driver at the Government House in Yola, shared his relief at the salary increase, which has allowed him to plan for his children’s return to school after they were previously withdrawn due to financial difficulties.
“I am pleased to see a N50,000 increase in my monthly salary,” he said. “This additional income will significantly help in alleviating my family’s suffering.”

Usman praised Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for keeping his promise to the civil servants.
Another worker, John Yusuf, employed at Adamawa State Television (ATV) Yola, said he plans to use his salary increase to buy fertilizer for his farm and food supplies for his family.
“Governor Fintiri has brought joy to our lives by implementing the new minimum wage,” he said.
LEADERSHIP observed that the Jimeta Ultramodern Market was bustling with activity, as many civil servants took the opportunity to purchase goods for their families and loved ones.
Governor Fintiri had approved the payment of the new minimum wage for state government workers starting in August 2024, with local government workers set to begin receiving it in September 2024.
