The planned arraignment of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello was delayed on Thursday as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to produce him before the Federal High Court in Abuja,Daily Trust reports.

Bello was scheduled to be arraigned on fresh charges, including a 19-count indictment for money laundering amounting to ₦82 billion. This follows his earlier remand by an FCT High Court over a separate 16-count charge involving ₦110.4 billion.

Court sources disclosed that the case was not listed on the court’s schedule for the day due to incomplete filings.

Additionally, Justice Emeka Nwite had previously set January 21, 2025, as the date to address the arraignment and await the outcome of a related appeal pending before the Supreme Court.

As a result, EFCC lawyers and security personnel stationed at the court premises withdrew around midday after it became clear the arraignment would not proceed.

The case has faced multiple delays, largely due to the repeated absence of the former governor in court.
