Attah Sisters Helping Hands Foundation (ASHHF) Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), says it recorded 150 cases of different forms of domestic violence 2022 in Bauchi State.
Mr Kingsley Yallings Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, disclosed this during a monthly meeting of the Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) management committee on Thursday in Bauchi.
Yallings, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Director ED, Mrs Comfort Attah, said the foundation handled and treated 150 different cases of domestic violence in the state.
“The cases include 12 rape, 60 domeatic violence, 34 forceful marriage, 28 neglects that bring to the total of 150 cases across the state in 2022,” he said
He said the sensitisation has helped in tackling SGBV scourge and increased reporting in the state.She said that ASHHF, supported by Action aid, facilitated the Committee meetings, advocacy counseling, and support of victims across the State.
“With the SGBV management Committee girls and victims know their rights and where to report to.
“They now know that if they see something, they should say something.Some of the victims were attended for counseling, empowers with various foodstuffs, drugs, legal support and referrals to National Human Right Commission (NHRC).”
(ASHHF) has recorded a lot of success with the responses it got from various intervention programmes that it had undertaken before,” she said.
She further urged parents to educate their children and not embarrass them unnecessarily when they were faced with issues on SGBV.
The ED charged the committee members to remain committed in the fight against all forms of violence against women, girls and children.
